Spreading Seeds – the new role model – alt-future

seedThe Idea: Spreading Seeds

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” R Buckminster Fuller

In building a small and manageable community its members must engage the will rightly, and in doing so it must also engage the heart and mind.

a.k.a. valued labor – the alt-future – to live culturally, again.

The Seven Basic Human Needs and Rights For Any Civilized Society
Clean and Safe Shelter
Clean Food and Water
A Balanced Ethical Education
Health and Physical Care
Productive Purposeful Work
Free and Open Communication
and like all of Nature and Heaven’s Creations Rest

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” -Aristotle

~this is the platform in which we live our lives

Goal: To build an economic self-sustainable community that becomes an open-source role model for other like minded citizens to copy, build upon, adjust to their community needs and share.

The community must be transparent in its financials, its values will embrace clean safe shelter, clean water and food, the creation of work with meaningful purpose guided by just and sound ethics, the development of common sense education and good health, and the promise of free and open communication to all citizens who choose to participate freely.

We invite and reach out to open minded visionaries to guide us financially in order to secure fertile land and help us develop a sound economy through micro-economic sustainable structures.

We invite innovative speakers and practitioners who embrace both old world common sense practices while developing healthy innovative technologies that help us remain true to our self-sustaining goals, while keeping them in balance with our community values.

We will strive to bring forward an enlighten social consciousness incorporating and working with environmentally sound models and modern thought. We will work diligently to end the practice of unpersonhood that is growing exponentially around the world.

This world is not wanting of ideas, but ideas are in need of focus and funding.

This idea is not hard, in fact it is older than dirt.

Put aside ‘it takes a village,’ we need to start building the village, and we need to clean the place up – this is the new role model.

The hardest step is going from zero to one. Universal Basic Income is one way we can help make possible the leap that is needed to develop this very real, practical and dynamic community, yet there are other worthwhile systems of funding open for consideration providing they are both legal and ethical, no stone unturned.

“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”Mahatma Gandhi

Worthwhile Skills Needed In A New Community:
Land Management: water, botanical, biomass, energy, sustainable plant growth.
House Building: grid and off grid electrical solar, clean plumbing, woodworking.
Farming: organic, biodynamic, herbs, aquaponics, animal husbandry, bee and butterfly keeping, plant and wildlife management.
Medical: allopathic, Chinese, holistic.
Education of Children: Steiner, Montessori, classical, community.
Adult Education: guest lecturers, arts, philosophy, academic and physical skills.
Computer and Internet Technology: maintain and secure an open and world wide internet.
Worker Owned Business Management: dotting i’s crossing t’s, visionary business expansion, legacy endowment.
Business Retail: co-op grocery, bakery, artists co-op, artisan village bazaar. *
Worker Support: developing new skills and training unskilled labor to become skilled.
Grant Writing and Fund Raising: invaluable.
Ethical Media & Communication: inviting guest speakers, educating the public, community outreach, radio communication.
Government Liaison: a representative voice in the old world.
Lawyering: to deal, confront and protect against the obsolete system.

*(Do not fear hard work or the word co-op, it is just another means of trade, barter, entrepreneurship, like a time bank).

This can all be done through UBI, simply because most people value the quality of life more than the quantity of money; contrary to popular belief, economics is far more complex that just that one component.

“If any State in the Union will declare that it prefers separation with the first alternative, to a continuance in union without it, I have no hesitation in saying, ‘let us separate’. I would rather the States should withdraw, which are for unlimited commerce and war, and confederate with those alone which are for peace and agriculture.” -Thomas Jefferson

“There will never be a really free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly.” – Henry David Thoreau

BRIEF: New Cancer Therapy, Too Many Choice, WEB3.0, Solar Balls, The Future

A promising new cancer treatment that may one day replace radiation and chemotherapy is edging closer to human trials.

Kanzius RF therapy attaches microscopic nanoparticles to cancer cells and then “cooks” tumors inside the body with harmless radio waves. Based on technology developed by Pennsylvania inventor John Kanzius, a retired radio and TV engineer, the treatment has proven 100 percent effective at killing cancer cells while leaving neighboring healthy cells unharmed. It is currently being tested at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Too many choices – good or bad – can be mentally exhausting
Each day, we are bombarded with options — at the local coffee shop, at work, in stores or on the TV at home. Do you want a double-shot soy latte, a caramel macchiato or simply a tall house coffee for your morning pick-me-up” Having choices is typically thought of as a good thing. Maybe not, say researchers who found we are more fatigued and less productive when faced with a plethora of choices.

How Social Networking Could Kill Web Search as We Know It
The Web is, in a sense, maturing into a different medium than the one that search engines were originally designed to tackle. Allow me, for a moment, to oversimplify the issue in the interest of making a point: Until now, the Web has largely been a resource for information organization and consumption, with the user functioning as a consumer. In this scenario, a search engine is an ideal tool—you need some information (a restaurant address, the name of a song stuck in your head), but you don’t know where to find it, so a search engine is the natural first stop in your online journey.

But in the past few years, a bunch of sites have begun to pop up based on the philosophy of user-generated content—a phenomenon often referred to as “Web 2.0” (a term, which, if I had my way, would be violently abolished from the lexicon). Flickr, for instance, is predicated on the notion that people don’t want just to look for photos but to share them. Same goes for YouTube, more or less. This, in turn, led to an explosion of online communities—once you’ve amassed a bunch of content to share, the natural next instinct is to create social bonds around it. This, of course, is the online equivalent of what people have been doing for centuries: finding other people with similar interests and forming social cliques, or vice versa.

Can unusual clouds signal the possibility of an impending earthquake?

That’s the question being asked following the discovery of distinctive cloud formations above an active fault in Iran before each of two large earthquakes occurred.

Geophysicists Guangmeng Guo and Bin Wang of Nanyang Normal University in Henan, China, noticed a gap in the clouds in satellite images from December 2004 that precisely matched the location of the main fault in southern Iran. It stretched for hundreds of kilometres, was visible for several hours and remained in the same place, although the clouds around it were moving. At the same time, thermal images of the ground showed that the temperature was higher along the fault. Sixty-nine days later, on 22 February 2005, an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 hit the area, killing more than 600 people.

In December 2005, a similar formation again appeared in the clouds for a few hours. Sixty-four days later, an earthquake of magnitude 6 shook the region (International Journal of Remote Sensing, vol 29, p 1921).

Guo and Wang suggest that an eruption of hot gases from inside the fault could have caused water in the clouds to evaporate. Another idea is that ionisation may be involved: Friedemann Freund at the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, recently demonstrated that when rocks are squeezed, positively charged ions form in the air above. The trouble is that ions usually help to form clouds, not dissipate them.

The authors say that if recognisable cloud formations precede large quakes, they could be used for prediction, but other seismologists are sceptical. “There is no physical model that explains why something would suddenly occur two months before an earthquake, and then shut off and not occur again,” says Mike Blanpied of the US Geological Survey’s Earthquake Hazards Program.

In the new book The Way We Will Be 50 Years From Today: 60 Of The World’s Greatest Minds Share Their Vision Of The Next Half-Century (Thomas Nelson, April 2008), Mike Wallace asks a group of visionaries, including 15 Nobel Prize winners, to describe the next half-century.

Among the forecasts:

– Our grandchildren will live to be 140 years old.
– Diseases such as breast cancer and heart disease will be preventable or even wiped out.
– Each of us will have a copy of our own complete DNA sequence, incorporated into a highly accurate electronic medical record and can be accessible from anywhere.
– Schizophrenia and bipolar disorders will be well understood and treatable.
– People will be forced to marry others based on genotypes and those who are not authorized will be subject to tremendous tax burdens for any sick or disabled children.
– Humans will have exhausted most of the coal and oil reserves of the planet and added many pollutants to the environment.
– We may have lived through a nuclear war.

Essayists in the book include Nobel-prize-winner George Smoot, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, Internet co-creator Vint Cerf, and futurist (from)Ray Kurzweil.

Professor David Faimen has produced a solar panel in the Negev desert that is 1500 times more powerful than the existing panels-the size of a computer screen. It would take and area of 3km X 3Km to meet the needs of 1,000,000 in Israel.
