Universal Basic Income

The Cost Of Living

To be alive.

Recently, I did some research into historic product costs and while doing so came across some pretty sad and desperate thoughts by people suffering under our current financial and social system. Here’s a few things I found.

Between 1974 and 1977 minimum wage was roughly $2.50 per hour. Back then a loaf of bread cost 0.29, green pepper 0.08, onion 0.03, chicken 0.29lb, bulb garlic 0.10, milk 0.99 gal, ice cream 1/2 gal 0.79.

Today those very same items would cost roughly $20.00.

In 1974 rent for a 2bd flat, heat included, was $125.00 a month, today that same flat rents for $1350.00 plus heat.

In 1974 30% of your income went towards shelter. Today it is 40 to 45%.

That 15% difference should be savings.

Anyone making $20 per hour today is actually making less than minimum wage in 1977. Minimum wage, based on the price of inflation – THINGS WE NEED TO LIVE – should be roughly $23.00 per hour just to break even.

If you are making $7.50 or even $10.00 per hour you are living in perpetual debt and financially a sub-standard lifestyle.

The Sad Reality

Dungeons and dragons and the blackpill.

Currently, most working people are living on what I call The New Reservation: After the US Army rounded up the Native Peoples, put them on what became known as The Reservation. Those who were “lucky” enough to work off The Reservation received a substandard wage for their labor. The only place to purchase any goods or foods in those areas was a place called The General Store (this model was also used in smaller towns known as The Company Store). Prices at these stores were so inflated the people living there were forced to run up credit in order to survive leaving them forever in debt and stuck on The Reservation.

The majority of us are all living on The New Reservation now, and many are also stuck in The New Plantation.

The New Plantation is the prison system, most of the people in prison are in for non-violent offenses, but rather than have them make fair restitution, apologize, perhaps even seek the help or skills they need to live they are put into the private prison system where it just so happens that their warm-behind-bars-bodies pays well on the floor of the stock market – between $25K to $60K a year, actual human cost for upkeep on that scale, $10k. Further, regardless of the offence in the private system be assured these people serve every single day of their sentence, there is little to no room for good behavior or restitution. Those in prison who work; assembling furniture or sitting in a call-center earn 0.79 an hour for their labor.  Again, this segment of society is faced with inflated prices for the purchase of the simple pleasures within the prison system they need or want such as a call home, a pack of cigarettes or a candy bar.

Out here in the real world chances are you have no medical insurance. Even under ObamaRomneyCare, face it, with a $6k deductible, you have no health care. If you are low income you are paying $200 a month for nothing. Let’s follow the money, see where it goes… Connecticut, (you know who you are).

However, if you are low income and can swallow your pride, you might qualify for Food Stamps, or in the new Orwellian-Speak ‘Food Share.’ Still, you are eating highly processed packaged food because you either lack the education on how to eat right, or too depressed to even care.

You also have no savings, maxed out any credit card you may have had at some outrageously high interest rate, perhaps you are even in student loan debt or stuck in some payday loan scam.

You are most likely living in low income housing or rent a run down apartment in an unsafe area wondering how much worse it can possibly get.

Chances are your job, if you have one, is unfulfilling, has no benefits, pension or real future.

You wonder how you even get up in the morning.

Your only source of entertainment and diversion is the internet, if you are savvy enough to operate and own a computer, or you’re bombarded by endless commercials on TV telling you all the things you need that you can’t afford and are subjugated to watching the lifestyles of people, the elite class, your betters, the lucky ones, you’ll never know or be like.

Compared to your parents your life expectancy in the US has now dropped by 10 to 15 years.

At this point you’re too proud to make any new friends because you’re always broke, down and out. You’re too embarrassed to talk to or bother your family, who is also struggling with finances and waking up in the morning to their unfulfilling dead end jobs. In your eyes the word failure is written and everyone can see it, so you keep your head down, get through the day and escape home hoping you don’t get mugged or sick.

Your mind wanders more often to the topic of a quick and painless end, because none of this really matters, and that mindset is reinforced daily by businesses and colleagues who remind you that you’re easily replaced and no one needs your business. This is what’s call the free market, the post-modern world of capitalism, unpersonhood. Darwin in action.

You’re living just a few steps and a paycheck away from homelessness.

By this time many fall into drugs and too often people feel that coming back from an overdose is worse than dying.

THIS is NOT Western Civilization, this is borderline Communism, Corporatism,  Plutocracy, Slavery call it what you will, but it not the struggle for a better or balanced life.

America Is Spiraling

Prison is the New Plantation, Debt is the New Reservation, War is a Culture of Death.

Basic Income changes all that.

All of it!

Basic Income is really just compensation for the last 45 years of deflated wages and massive unfair debt and yes, usury.

If you are counting on your good graces, charming disposition, laurels or luck to get you through life, think again. Those who have lost those 10 to 15 years of life expectancy are dying in massive debt, on average $63k worth of debt on their death bed and that debt is left to you, your children, your grandchildren and their grandchildren. Complete economic and educational control is now in the hands of the few.

The black hole of debt is growing and the bigger it gets the faster is sucks in everything in its path, and it is making its way up the income ladder. You are on that list.

If we don’t start lifting people up their sorrow and misery will collapse the whole damn thing and much sooner than we all think. What we have now will be utterly wiped out, and your quality of life will be armed with a 24/7 watch.

That said, I have a few words for those who say and feel that basic income is a hand-out for lazy people who just don’t want to work, you are wrong, dead wrong, ask a retired veteran, many who volunteer their time in schools, helping the sick, elderly, their brothers in need and for all who were lucky, had the strength to stick it through now live, through our good graces, on a basic income military pension.

If you lean towards the higher moral ground of ‘an honest dollar for an honest day’s work’ those old days you long for do not exists. Let me fill you in on our massive and miserable failure when is came to locking up the crooked bankers, the ending of corporate subsidies, all that massive crazy foreign aid, unaccountable military debt for endless wars that have absolutely nothing to do with ‘these here United States.’

How can anyone justify all the larceny and theft over an American Citizens basic survival?

There are market solutions beside a basic income: shore-up the 1974 income gap inflation as demonstrated above, cut profits and CEO salaries to level those earnings off and out, but also forbid the creation of robots, because now they are cheaper to run and more reliable than you are. However, to implement these solutions would require massive unrest, a civil war, our politician are owned by the very people these solutions would effect and you can’t stop the progress of technology.

The rhetoric our politicians, corporate CEOs and those who keep looking the other way still longing to hold out for that REAL Capitalism and that REAL Free Market which will fix everything, all that talk has proven to the majority is you are no longer trustworthy, and without trust you got zot!

Trust Is Everything

Everything.

Universal Basic Income is our last best hope to restore some of that trust, it is the injection, the cure, for a peaceful solution in a free society.

addendum: If you want to incorporate, or bring back “traditional values,” you’re going to have to back track economically. Making up for decades of lost wages, through UBI, offers the opportunity to present your argument out of freedom rather than force or desperation. If it’s a good argument then people will flock to your cause or philosophy once they have the free time to think about other thing outside of making ends meet. Denying people the choice out of desperation without curbing a good portion of popular culture makes it cruel endeavor. Not everything can be bought and sold in the free market, unless we legalize slavery again. Do we have the funds to do this? Of course we do. Needless war budgets, wasteful foreign aid, bailed out gambling banks and corporations. We have plenty of money, it’s only a matter of what we support. Currently, we support debt, prisons and wars. Tired of that, yet?

Donald J. Trump – The Genius

Part I.
Bernie Sander, 45th President of these United States of America.
091517-bs-dnc
Oops! Sorry, that’s taking place in the parallel universe.

First, I want to take a giant step back to 2015, when Bernie Sanders announced his bid to run for President of the United States.

Just before Bernie jumped in and Trump made his way down the escalator there was a real feeling growing on the left that this could be the year of a solid third party Populist run and win.  Even the media was going on the year before how this could be the end of the two party system.  After all, Obama proved to be a shill for Wall Street, a War Monger, not to mention the expanding NSA under his regime, record lock up of whistle-blowers by all presidents combined, and the end of the 4th Amendment via his signing of the NDAA.  The energy for a real 3rd party nominee was palpable, ‘Jill Stein or better!’sky’s the limit.  And though the campaign season seemed a long way off you just felt progressives were going to come together and really turn this into a Green year. This was it, a real third party candidate would step forward because between Clinton and Bush, “Wars & Banks Я Us!” there was absolutely no difference.

Then in May Bernie jumped into the race and that literally pulled the rug out from under a strong Green Party run. Suffice it to say, people who were on top of the issues were super pissed, they felt lost, almost betrayer, not because of Bernie’s decision to run, but that he decided to run as a Democrat.

Bernie’s appeal at the time was also pretty low among many progressives, not because of his age, but because of this town hall video – [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf2cCdgwgoM ]

I’m sure many remember.

soapboxEven though Bernie was still better than most democrats, even those who leaned left, he had this somewhat hidden and convoluted hard line pro-Israel narrative going on. He was wishy-washy on the settlements, looked the other way over the abuse of Palestinians, he never mentioned Israel’s rush towards an Apartheid state with all the atrocities, the abusive border crossings and patrols in Gaza. Further, even though he had this wise and great history of standing against the war, he voted to fund them all; wars can’t happen without money, not to mention the deals he made with Lockheed Martin in his home state of Vermont. Lastly, for all his left leaning and pro-justice views on the House and Senate Floors Bernie, as an Independent and the lone voice of the far liberal left had a history of building no more than a soapbox to stand on.

Progressives were suspicious, letting a life long Independent Bernie run as a Democrat made people think this might be a ruse by the war mongering banker bought and sold DNC now interjecting their will in order to take the wind out of the Green Party sails and rob them of their numbers. ‘Offer them Bernie and then we’ll pull in all the anti-war, anti-big-banks, anti-etceteras… we lost, all those who once hastened Obama to the front of the line and into the white house back in to the Democratic Party they left over the endless disappointments of his policies. Yat ah ahhh!’

No well informed and thinking progressive for a minute believed the DNC would let Bernie win.

Of course, in the end we were correct.

However, the big mistake the DNC made is they thought just reeling Bernie in was enough. His platform, though sketchy to most, didn’t matter, it was apparently good-nuff and as history now recalls his campaign took off and skyrocketed by October.  As they say, To The Moon! Doge! Even Bernie was amazed.

bernie-bird

That, was the energy we knew was out there and apparently so did the DNC.

The DNC thought, ‘now that Bernie has brought the lambs back into the fold we have to get rid of Bernie.’

And they did.

But Karma’s a bitch and the way the DNC went about cheating Bernie and his voters destroyed the DNC instead. So yeah, there’s an up side to everything. The DNC is now The RIP.

Since then, as you know,  Trump won, and that was way better than Jeb and of course way better than Hillary.

Why?

No More Bush, No More Clinton, a Trump win will finally make it clear to all, the banks own the two parties, the more uncertain question was, do they also own the outside candidate? Just how f#$%ed are we? Let’s measure.

Looking at the Trump Administration the answer seems simple, but is it?

Maybe Trump is a genius (don’t laugh) or is he just another corporate owned shill?

We are about to find out.

10_escalator_tnr

Part II.
The art of trickle down political spacing.

So, is Trump a genius?

Did Donald John Trump hire all these diabolical corporate professional who mercilessly worked the system for their own yugely-bigly financial gain in order to make these scoundrels dismantle the whole rotten system? (Oh, what a movie that would make, eh?).

If so, then YES, it would be affirmative, he would be a genius!

The only question then is how much will Trump get done and if he will be above board or slick and secretive like Obama and Clinton?

If he choses the latter, if he’s pulled the wool over the eyes of the American People, like Obama and Bush did, this time on the Independents; the swingers, then there are few options left. You can leave, secede or pray for a meteor to hit the planet cause at that point, the people who keep the system running; until replaced by robots, are working for a zero sum gain, or unless you get off the grid and find your inner Amish you could live right well off the land, newcomer.

Regardless, the working class is going to figure all this out faster than you might think. Those making bank, the upper middle class; ze bourgeoisie, will find themselves addicted to watching Dr. Zhivago or hoping for a Brave New World.

Right now, each day that goes by it looks as if Trump is less and less of a genius, though on some things he is able to cover his tracks, a dangling carrot here, a dangling carrot there.

His hard core supporters of course are blind to his actions and if he does lean away from the promised original task, ruffling their feather’s a bit, they are willing to cut him a break and qualify any one specific action with, “He’s trying to maintain the peace working for ALL Americans, what a guy!”

Some think it’s enough that he stop immigration from terrorist nations, (today’s results look very selective), put up the wall, bring jobs back and cut taxes. Those people say in the end Trump won’t be great, but above mediocre.

One question few have asked is, what does Trump really think?

Personally, right now, I’m trying to decide how I feel about long beards, brims, bonnets and buggies.

amishxing

If I think of anything else I’ll add it as we continue over his first 100 days to test this hypothesis,  Is Trump a Genius?

.
Great quote by Lee Fang, who I still think is a bit of a shill for the DNC, and how would he make a living if not for the endless conflicts he writes about? I wonder…  but maybe he’s waking up, a little? – “To win in the midterm elections all GOP has to do is deploy right wing podcasters & message board trolls to campuses, left easily distracted”

I don’t think Trump is Hitler, nor do I believe he will become Hitler or Stalin for that matter- but the two parties have acted like Hitler and Stalin for decades – just count the global dead by their corporate deeds, but there is a 4th Reich and a new Stalinism taking hold, where this is happening and by who, shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.
.
.
.
.
btw – I’ve been pondering this topic for a while, voicing many of the words here and elsewhere, but what helped me toss this into one semi-cohesive context was this

Liberal Losing Racist Trump Supporter!

Current proclivities dictate that if you say something good about Trump you’re a right wing racist supporter.

If, on the other hand, you say something bad about Trump you’re a liberal losing leftist.

This tactic on both sides not only stifles free speech, it’s extremely depressing, a form of bullying carried on mostly by people who do not know how to make a good argument on whatever topic is referenced.

During the election Glenn Greenwald felt compelled to pin this sentiment up on his twitter feed:

ggtweet

What does it say about us and where we are headed?

How do we combat this, or can we?

Must we justify what we are about to say with an apology first pinned to our twitter and facebook feeds?

“I didn’t vote for Trump but…”

“I voted for Trump but…”

Shall every response start with a  shortened version:

#IVFTB

#IDVFTB

Is it really necessary to run in circles, side step or curb dialogue for fear or hurt feelings, offending someone in advance, to express an opinion, address or speak the truth?

Could this be a sign of the great divide that will see this country break apart?

Did this rhetoric play itself out in the Chicago Torture Case?

Further thoughts on the topic to come, but please share your views…

Give Your Money Away Challenge #GYMAC

billionaires“We should do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian-Darwinian theory he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.” -R Buckminster Fuller

Government hasn’t worked for the little people since Jimmy Carter, roughly 36 years, and it ain’t going to work in the future for them either – YET – these wealthy so called Liberals and Christians have done little to nothing that helps the poor – they all seem fine with keeping a broken government, course they profit large off of the dream to fix it, their money invested in the stock-market they criticize, but we all know it will never be fixed and they will continue to profit. Is it a lie they tell themselves? Only human after all.

So here’s my challenge to all the upper 20% of liberal left, progressives, democrats – whatever you call yourselves these days – and those who call themselves Good Christians, GIVE YOUR MONEY AWAY CHALLENGE #GYMAC.

Make being greedy rich shameful again (#MGRSA? too many acronyms?). See who can give the most away to as many people as possible who can work to live their dream and not go completely broke. Bypass the wealthy bankers and stockholders, invest directly in real live people.

What the giver will receive: the incalculable adoration of most of the human species. Is that not enough?

Spread Joy and call it an Art Project.

Add conditions to the funds if you like, pay people to work at something they love to do, that will benefit others.  Mentor a student, sponsor a protégé.  Y’all got lawyers/agents to draw up a contracts, right? Be like Christ or Buddha and just GIVE IT AWAY lottery style if you must! You can spread it out, use it as a tax write off, promote yourself as the best human being on the planet. Become a real entrepreneur, a mensch, show the republicans you can do great things for business, the planet AND real people by allowing those who receive the funds to keep their dignity, maybe actually work towards fixing that broken government you’ve been talking about, all at the same time.

Don’t you think it’s time?

Unless, that’s not what you really want? We know keeping the status quo keeps your pockets full. Is that what you’re all about? We wonder…

The Industrial Revolution is Over – Technology has changed everything, it should also change our burdens; so we were told. Time to share the wealth! Move Forward! Onward and Upward as a species. Face it, most of you just got lucky, right time, right place, a little drive.

Regardless of how you got there, Just Do It!  Please, do something good.

Find some hard working people, lost people, desperate people, good people hanging by a thread and reach out, give them a helping hand or a leg up, throw a lottery; luck be a lady, or fund some good idea;  get 10% of the profits if it works and then fund more people.

Honestly, what’s $15k/$20k a year to a multi-millionaire or billionaire?

Promote #basicincome, DO SOMETHING instead of always profiting off our misery.

It’s a win win for you anyway you look at it.

p.s. I don’t mean to be harsh or sarcastic, but people are committing suicide because they see no hope, mostly because of debt; medical, student and otherwise. They no longer have job security, they live in constant fear and anxiety, no way to plan ahead or reach for greater goals. No longer do we see an increase in wages for average people, not even for the cost of living, and the loss of benefits, health care, no holiday pay or vacations wages, even after years of service, why go on? Many people’s greatest hope is winning the lottery that’s what it has come down to – pure luck. It’s understandable to wonder what is the point of going on, or to even bring a child into such a world and it is an even harsher reality when people see crooked bankers bailed out with their labor, and still receiving bonuses, CEOs making 1000 time more than the average worker as their income falls, and of course the endless wars which diminished all of our standard of living, with the shame that the slaughter of innocent people is being done in our name, we have lost our moral compass. If you have the means you really need to start giving back or grant these people final peace and honestly state openly that you are a Malthusian Darwinist – but please do not call yourself a liberal or Christian, that is a horrible trick and a sin to play on another human being.

I say click on the links and that will give you a pretty good idea of what makes a random actor, a real mensch. I don’t have a scientific method set up to analyze it, but I figure at least 50% of your time and wealth is probably a good start. I would also say a hand written letter (typed is okay too) or some token of appreciation, from the people you have helped would become priceless works of art. I personally have a story of a token given to me a long time ago, I’ll share that story here .

p.p.p.s. YES, YES and YES, I was raised in a hard core FDR, JFK, LBJ, Jimmy Carter Democrat environment, but I’ve seen the democratic party become a corporate owned entity conglomerate starting with the Clintons and now Obama. I saw the DNC work to destroy the Greens and cheat Bernie Sanders. This is not the party of FDR, JFK, LBJ or Jimmy Carter any more, those days have been over for decades, you need to face that fact. The little people no longer have a voice anywhere in government. Both parties are controlled by banks and corporations. The only way to even try and restore it is for wealthy liberals to put up the fund that restores the life and dignity of the little guy, the voiceless, the working people again. Your protests will do little to nothing, they have already put you in cages, tapped the phones of activist organizers, made whistle-blowers criminals. How can you not see this? If the wealthy liberals  do not do this act I’m afraid then we can only assume they are in on the deal, their own personal profits mean more to them than their fellow citizens. Let’s hope they get on the correct side of history.

Can’t just bitch any more, you have to build.

if you don’t understand this, you make too much money.

In the end, which isn’t played in this clip, Moore still backs Clinton – for all the wrong reasons.

Still, he’s right about one thing, if she wins and can’t bridge the gap – which for the life of me I don’t see how she could, it’s not in her character or make up – the country is on the path to over. Trump voters will not go gentle into that good night.
